Job Summary

The Communication Officer is responsible for developing and managing the Foundation's internal and external communications to strengthen its public image, increase visibility, and share the impact of its work. This role creates compelling stories that highlight the lives being transformed through the Foundation's programs while ensuring all communication reflects the organization's mission and values.

Working closely with program teams, leadership, partners, and media outlets, the Communication Officer develops content for the website, social media platforms, newsletters, press releases, reports, and promotional materials. The role also supports media engagement, public awareness campaigns, donor communications, and branding initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller with excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal skills who can communicate complex information in a clear, engaging, and meaningful way across different audiences.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies that promote the Foundation's mission and programs.
  • Write and publish engaging content for the Foundation's website, blog, and social media platforms.
  • Prepare press releases, success stories, speeches, newsletters, brochures, and promotional materials.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with journalists, media organizations, and communication partners.
  • Manage the Foundation's social media presence and ensure consistent brand messaging.
  • Capture and share stories, photographs, videos, and testimonials that demonstrate program impact.
  • Coordinate media coverage for events, campaigns, and organizational activities.
  • Support donor communication by preparing reports, updates, and communication materials.
  • Ensure all published content is accurate, professional, and aligned with the Foundation's branding guidelines.
  • Monitor communication performance and recommend strategies to improve audience engagement and public awareness.
  • Collaborate with program teams to gather information for reports and impact stories.
  • Respond to media inquiries and support crisis communication when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or nonprofit communications.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, and digital communication campaigns.
  • Ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences across multiple communication channels.
  • Knowledge of media relations, public relations, and brand management principles.
  • Experience using content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media management tools is an advantage.
  • Basic photography, videography, and graphic design skills are desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to represent the Foundation professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common digital communication tools.
  • Passion for nonprofit work and a commitment to ethical, accurate, and impactful communication.
